This new case study from Johnson & Johnson demonstrates the value of assessing care pathways with an environmental impact lens. It reinforces value-based healthcare, in that improved health outcomes following knee replacement surgery using Care4Today®, a digital care pathway programme, correlate with a reduced cost in environmental terms.
In this study, data from Nottingham University Hospital was used to demonstrate that Care4Today® improved outcomes for patients and delivered substantial reductions in length of hospital stay needed, thus leading to substantial reductions in cost at both the patient and environmental levels. Greenhouse gas savings were estimated to be 50 kg CO2e per patient.
