At Johnson & Johnson (J&J), we know that human health and environmental health are fundamentally linked – healthy people need a healthy planet. But environmental impacts are increasingly affecting people’s health and well-being, and climate change is a global public health threat. With our reach, expertise and convening power, we are taking action to improve our environmental footprint and support the resilience of our business for generations to come.
J&J was a founding member of the SHC. We were attracted to the group because the NHS was the first major healthcare system that showed an interest in tackling decarbonization of healthcare, and secondly, the power of public-private partnerships can be quite strong and impactful.”
Changes implemented since joining the Coalition
At J&J, we believe multi-stakeholder engagement is key, and our work with organisations like the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition helps accelerate our progress and amplify our impact through:
·The power of partnership between private and public healthcare in an open-minded collaboration.
·Networking in a pre-competitive fashion.
·The convening power, enabling dialogue, and creation of evidence-based guidelines.
·Being well informed about what is going on in the most sustainability-progressive health system in Europe, which has a halo effect beyond the UK.
·Reputation and recognition beyond UK borders.
Recent sustainability achievement
Our participation in the Coalition has helped us to drive forward transformative change through regular Greener NHS Net Zero meetings, having the SHC representing us at the Supplier Forum and the Sustainable Markets Initiative. We have also set up our own internal Greener NHS engagement team in 2022 and have become a pilot partner to the Greener NHS team / Evergreen supplier engagement. Our involvement over the years has contributed to J&J being looked at as a thought leader in this area.
