The Sustainable Medicines Partnership  (SMP), an important collaborative initiative led by YewMaker announced the 42 founding collaborators today, 4th October 2022.

The Sustainable Healthcare Coalition has joined the other founder collaborators, including pharma, generic and retail medicines manufacturers, distributors, supply chain, technology providers, healthcare, hospitals, pharmacy, academia, policymakers and changemakers. This multi-stakeholder effort aims to identify and bring forward a number of projects that harness cross-sector capabilities to generate science-based, scalable and high-impact solutions to improve the sustainability profile of medicines across their manufacture, distribution, use and disposal life cycles.

Billions of safe, effective, usable, and much needed medicines are wasted annually, at huge financial and environmental cost and healthcare alone is responsible for over 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Recognising that more must be done to drive the sustainable transition of healthcare, members of the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition come together to accelerate the delivery of a net zero, sustainable health supply chain. One such area the Coalition is working on is how to reduce the carbon footprint of clinical trials. 

Through executing priority actions, thttps://shcoalition.org/clinical-trials/he Sustainable Medicines Partnership aims to stop the avoidable waste of medicines and medicines packaging – reducing healthcare emissions and increasing health equity globally.
