We are excited that leading international healthcare company, Bupa has joined the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition (SHC).

Health insurance is at the core of Bupa’s business in addition to which it provides healthcare provision through its hospitals, health clinics, digital services, dental centres and aged care facilities, serving over 38 million customers worldwide. With no shareholders, their profits are re-invested in the business for the benefit of current and future customers to build a more resilient healthcare system and make a better world.

Nigel Sullivan, Bupa’s Chief Sustainability and People Officer, explained why Bupa joined the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition; “We have decided to partner with the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition to accelerate the progress needed to meet our ambition to become a net zero business by 2040.

We know we cannot secure a sustainable future alone. This means learning from each other, piloting new ideas, sharing insights and innovations openly. We must then ensure this knowledge is embedded in our organisations to provide and accelerate innovative and sustainable healthcare.”

The Sustainable Healthcare Coalition is a healthcare sector led collaboration which looks for the greatest opportunities to inspire sustainable practices in healthcare through the collaboration of its members across private and public sectors. Action focused; our core principle is that net zero sustainability challenges are most effectively addressed by collaborating across the system.

The collaboration allows open conversations between committed organisations to explore the possibility for change in a safe space and, by focusing on tangible sustainability problems, it has driven innovation and led to practical action through testing and learning across the system.
